Competition speaker systems
JBL® pushes the envelope of engineering and audio technology with the introduction of the JBL GTi competition
speaker systems. Building on the superior sound quality and high power handling delivered by previous
generations of JBL GTi Series speakers, the JBL GTi competition speaker systems were designed for the
serious car audio enthusiast and will set a new standard for competition-level mobile audio equipment.
FEATURES
The Woofer
• The GTi competition speaker systems are the first to offer real customization with two different speaker grilles (brown
leather-wrapped and carbon fiber).
• Ultrarigid woven Kevlar cone provides a superior stiffness-to-mass ratio for high sensitivity and minimum distortion. The
ultrarigid cone is attached to a nitrile-butylene rubber (NBR) surround for superior damping and longevity.
• Neodymium magnet delivers high magnetic energy in a small space and contributes to motor compactness. Moreover, the
size of the neodymium magnet compared to conventional ferrite leaves more room for steel components in the motor. Contributes
higher thermal power handling by providing more heatsink mass.
• Copper polepiece cap provides linear inductance over the full range of voice coil travel for reduced intermodulation distortion,
crystal-clear vocals and midrange, even during heavy bass signals.
• Proprietary cast-aluminum basket provides enough strength to support the massive motor. The vented architecture offers
substantial motor cooling.
• Long, over-hung 50mm (2") aluminum edge-wound voice coil offers high excursion for improved low-frequency capability and
reduced distortion at low frequencies and high input power.
• Vented voice coil former minimizes distortion from mechanical noise.
The Tweeter
• Wide bandwidth 25mm (1") textile-dome tweeter provides additional voice-coil surface area for heat dissipation, high power
handling and a low crossover point. Combining the textile dome and Elliptical Oblate Spheroidal (EOS) waveguide, the new
GTi competition speaker systems maintain flat frequency response to 20kHz at ±30 degrees off-axis, and up to 10kHz
at 60 degrees off-axis!
• The new EOS waveguide provides improved tweeter directivity. Systems with poor directivity may have drastically different
frequency response off-axis. An automobile interior includes many reflective surfaces in proximity to the speakers. JBL’s
EOS waveguide provides uniform frequency response on- and off-axis for accurate frequency response in the car.
The Crossover
• High-end components – such as polypropylene capacitors that provide low ESR and low saturation at high power – are
incorporated. Air-core inductors arranged at critical right angles minimize saturation and distortion-causing magnetic
interference. Wire-wound resistors with integral heatsinks ensure precise frequency response and crossover-slope
alignment at any input power level.
• Includes adjustment for optimization with either waveguide-mounted tweeters or tweeters mounted using the I-MountTM
(patent no. 5,859,917) kit. An adjustment for tweeter level is also provided.
• Bi-amping-capable for use with multiple amplifiers.
