I bought my 1996 Acura Integra GS-R 2 door on November 15 of 2001, (one month before my b-day!) after looking for a new car for about a year. She wasn't the best on the lot but I knew I wanted her right away, plus she was at the right price! My car was about $11,000 before taxes but since I paid cash they lowered the price, so I paid even less. That’s the way to go, pay cash, no payments or extra charges and I can do what I want when I want! She had about 80,000 miles and was previously owned by a soldier from Oregon when I found her at the lot. When I got her home I swapped the deck and speakers out for a Kenwood and some Cerwin-Vega 2-ways. I also ordered AEM cold air intake. I had to gain that 100 hp quick!
As for performance modifications you’ll have to bare with me as I have now done so many I forgot what most of them are. I started small and worked my way up. I got the AEM cold air intake in the 1st month. In the next 5 to 6 months I added an OBX cam gear set, JG Edelbrock throttle body, AEM High Performance Fuel Rail, AEM pulley kit with under drive pulley. I now have a full Crower valve train including their Stage 2 cams. I also put in JE 9.1:1 piston at .20 over and Eagle H-Beam rods. We put in a new crankshaft, as it was part of the rotating assembly deal we got from JE. I found a block guard on Ebay for 70 bucks so I picked that up too. Nothing like a little added protection. When they opened up the clutch assembly we found all kinds of cool extra parts. I put those up on Ebay for sale so buy them!! Not really! The clutch plate split in two and the push out bearing was worn out. All the other parts are general rebuild parts like a gasket kit and spray paint for the oil pan to make it look all nice and pretty. There are fewer parts to get, but some I feel are pointless, like new exhaust headers as I am planning on a turbo kit by the end of this year. I still have the Dual Exhaust system that everyone says decreases my power but I tell them not to worry because they’re still behind me! The only exhaust part I don’t have is cat converter but in a year or so Colorado will be dropping the clean air act so we won’t need them
As the exterior goes not much has been done. I got a new bumper to accommodate the dual exhaust. I also put on some R1 springs. I don’t plan on lowering the rear as the system seems to do that pretty well, but the front is about 1” to 2.5” lower. I decided not to swap taillights, as it’s an extra 100-200 bucks I can put in to my motor. Plus I couldn’t really find a set I liked. Thanks to all who voted.
Now for my favorite part… the stereo! It’s all new, all reinstalled, and all sound damped. I took the time to check out everything while the car was down. I “Dynamatted” with a kit from Home Depot…It’s a gutter repair kit that uses the same stuff as “Dynamat” but for way less. I’d like to say its 10” x 20’ and cost 15 bucks a roll. This means little to no waste unlike the big sheets of “Dynamat”. So I got 2 rolls and did the whole passenger compartment and the hatch. Good enough for me! I have the AudioBahn ABC-6003Q’s in the front and the ABC-5002Q’s 5.25” in the rear for midrange and highs. Those are pushed by a U.S. Amps 5600X. As far as the subs go, I have a pair of AudioBahn AW1500Q 15” subs. I have a U.S. Amps DE 1000x pushing those. I put in a Pioneer DVH-P7000U for my deck with an AVD-W6000 for a monitor. I have a few other toys on the system. I have a US4000 for competitions but that’s all I use it for. I added the Audio Control 6XS Crossover and 2 Audio Control EQL’s for Equalizers. I hardly have to turn up the volume to go deaf now. I have the deck at 6 (out of 62) and the gains on the 5600 at 25% and on the 1000x at 50% but the RBG (Remote Bass Gain) at 5%. That means the gain won’t go over 50% but I don’t have to get out to lower the bass gains! Most amps come with this feature now! I took out the Audio Control Three.1. It did no good now that I have all the other Audio Control parts.
